Quorum Cigars: Classic, Maduro and Shade

Quorum is a J.C. Newman cigar brand handmade at the company's PENSA factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. Introduced in 2003, Quorum developed into a major Nicaraguan bundle-cigar brand and helped establish the production volume that eventually led J.C. Newman to build its own factory in Estelí.

The current Quorum portfolio consists of Classic, Maduro, and Shade. Each uses Nicaraguan filler tobacco, while changes to the wrapper and binder distinguish the three blends.

Quorum Cigar Blends

Quorum Classic

Quorum Classic uses a Sumatra Sungrown wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler tobaccos. It is the original expression of the Quorum family and provides the baseline for comparing the Maduro and Shade versions.

Quorum Maduro

Quorum Maduro retains a Sumatra Sungrown wrapper while using Connecticut Broadleaf as the binder over Nicaraguan filler tobacco. This different binder construction separates Maduro from the standard Quorum Classic blend.

Quorum Shade

Quorum Shade uses an Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper with Sumatra Sungrown binder and Nicaraguan filler. The Connecticut wrapper makes Shade the most structurally distinct of the three primary Quorum blends.

Quorum Classic vs. Maduro vs. Shade

Quorum Classic combines Sumatra Sungrown wrapper with Nicaraguan binder and filler. Maduro changes the binder to Connecticut Broadleaf, while Shade uses Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper over Sumatra Sungrown binder. All three are handmade at the same PENSA factory in Nicaragua.

Quorum Robusto, Toro, Churchill and Double Gordo Cigars

Quorum is produced across an unusually broad range of sizes. Current factory formats include Corona, Robusto, Toro, Torpedo, Churchill, Double Gordo, Tres Petit Corona, and Short Robusto, with availability varying somewhat by blend. This allows the blend to be selected first and the preferred dimensions second.

Where Are Quorum Cigars Made?

Quorum cigars are handmade at J.C. Newman's PENSA factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. PENSA opened in 2011 and also produces several other Nicaraguan J.C. Newman brands, including Brick House, El Baton, and Perla del Mar.

The History of Quorum Cigars

J.C. Newman introduced Quorum in 2003 as a value-oriented handmade Nicaraguan cigar. Demand for Quorum eventually exceeded the capacity of the factory producing it for J.C. Newman, contributing to the company's decision to establish PENSA in Estelí. Quorum subsequently became one of the highest-volume cigar brands produced within J.C. Newman's Nicaraguan portfolio.
