Diamond Crown Cigars: Classic, MAXIMUS and the Diamond Crown Family

Diamond Crown is a premium cigar family from J.C. Newman Cigar Co. with production handled by the Fuente family at Tabacalera A. Fuente in the Dominican Republic. The modern Diamond Crown brand was introduced in 1995 to commemorate J.C. Newman's 100th anniversary and later expanded with fuller and more specialized blends.

The current Diamond Crown family includes Classic, MAXIMUS, Julius Caeser, and Black Diamond. These collections should be compared as separate blends within the Diamond Crown brand rather than as individual cigar brands.

Diamond Crown Cigar Blends

Diamond Crown Classic

Diamond Crown Classic represents the original modern Diamond Crown expression. Handmade in the Dominican Republic by Tabacalera A. Fuente, the collection occupies the smoother side of the Diamond Crown family and provides a direct contrast with the darker, fuller MAXIMUS blend.

Diamond Crown MAXIMUS

Diamond Crown MAXIMUS was created by Stanford J. Newman and Carlos Fuente Jr. and introduced in 2002. The blend uses an Ecuadorian El Bajo Sungrown wrapper over Dominican binder and filler tobaccos. The wrapper is selected from upper primings grown in Ecuador's El Bajo region and provides the primary tobacco distinction between MAXIMUS and the original Diamond Crown blend.

Diamond Crown Classic vs. MAXIMUS

Diamond Crown Classic and MAXIMUS are separate blends within the same Diamond Crown family. Classic occupies the smoother end of the portfolio, while MAXIMUS uses a darker Ecuadorian El Bajo Sungrown wrapper with Dominican binder and filler. Shoppers looking for a fuller Diamond Crown expression should therefore compare MAXIMUS with the original Classic blend.

Diamond Crown Julius Caeser

Diamond Crown Julius Caeser was introduced in 2010 in recognition of company and family milestones. The blend uses an Ecuadorian Havana wrapper with Dominican binder and Caribbean and Central American filler tobaccos. J.C. Newman specifies that the tobaccos are aged for five years before the cigars are handmade at Tabacalera A. Fuente.

Diamond Crown Black Diamond

Black Diamond is another distinct blend within the Diamond Crown portfolio. Like the other premium Diamond Crown collections, it is produced in the Dominican Republic by Tabacalera A. Fuente. Black Diamond should remain grouped under the Diamond Crown brand rather than being treated as a separate manufacturer or top-level cigar brand.

Where Are Diamond Crown Cigars Made?

Diamond Crown cigars are handmade in the Dominican Republic by Tabacalera A. Fuente. J.C. Newman's relationship with the Fuente family extends across Diamond Crown Classic, MAXIMUS, Julius Caeser, and Black Diamond, making the Dominican factory an important common element across the Diamond Crown portfolio.

The History of Diamond Crown Cigars

Diamond Crown was one of the early cigar names associated with J.C. Newman. Stanford J. Newman relaunched Diamond Crown in 1995 to commemorate the company's 100th anniversary. MAXIMUS followed in 2002, and Julius Caeser was introduced in 2010. The family has continued to expand while remaining part of J.C. Newman's premium Dominican-made portfolio.

Choosing a Diamond Crown Cigar

Begin with the blend rather than the vitola. Diamond Crown Classic provides the original expression, MAXIMUS moves toward a fuller profile with its Ecuadorian El Bajo Sungrown wrapper, and Julius Caeser uses Ecuadorian Havana over a different interior blend. After selecting a collection, compare the available length, ring gauge, and shape.
