Diesel Cigars: Blends, Tobacco and Barrel Aging
Diesel cigars are built primarily around fuller tobacco profiles, with Nicaraguan tobacco playing an important role throughout the portfolio. Individual blends vary substantially in wrapper, binder, strength, and aging technique, ranging from Pennsylvania Broadleaf and Ecuadorian Habano to Connecticut Broadleaf and other darker wrapper styles.
Whiskey Row is particularly distinctive because selected binder tobacco is aged in spirits barrels before blending. Other Diesel releases, including Hair of the Dog and Backyard BBQ, use different tobacco combinations to create separate expressions rather than simply changing the size of the same core blend.

Diesel Whiskey Row
Diesel Whiskey Row is a collaboration with Rabbit Hole Distillery blended by A.J. Fernandez. The blend uses a five-year-aged Ecuadorian Habano wrapper over a Mexican San Andrés binder aged in Rabbit Hole bourbon barrels and Nicaraguan long-filler tobaccos from Ometepe, Jalapa, and Condega. Current Cigars N Cigars selections include the 5 1/2 x 52 Robusto along with a Whiskey Row Robusto sampler.
Diesel Whiskey Row Sherry Cask
Whiskey Row Sherry Cask takes the barrel-aging concept in a different direction. It combines a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper with a Brazilian Arapiraca binder aged in Rabbit Hole Sherry Cask bourbon barrels and Nicaraguan filler tobacco. The blend is separate from the original Whiskey Row in both wrapper and binder composition. Current inventory includes the 6 x 58 Gigante.
Diesel Backyard BBQ Burnt Ends
Backyard BBQ Burnt Ends is a limited-production Diesel release made in Nicaragua. The 6 x 52 Toro uses a Pennsylvania Broadleaf Maduro wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler tobaccos. Its all-Nicaraguan interior and Broadleaf Maduro wrapper provide a distinctly different tobacco structure from the barrel-aged Whiskey Row blends.
Diesel Hair of the Dog
Diesel Hair of the Dog is a limited-edition 6 x 54 box-pressed Toro blended by A.J. Fernandez. It uses an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, Ecuadorian Sumatra binder, and Nicaraguan filler tobaccos. The combination distinguishes Hair of the Dog from both the Broadleaf-wrapped Burnt Ends and the barrel-aged Whiskey Row collections.
Diesel Whiskey Row vs. Whiskey Row Sherry Cask
The original Whiskey Row and Whiskey Row Sherry Cask both incorporate barrel-aged binder tobacco, but the blends are substantially different. Whiskey Row uses an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper and Mexican San Andrés binder aged in bourbon barrels. Sherry Cask uses Connecticut Broadleaf over a Brazilian Arapiraca binder aged in Sherry Cask bourbon barrels. Both use Nicaraguan filler tobacco.
Diesel Cigars and A.J. Fernandez
A.J. Fernandez has played a central role in developing many Diesel blends. The original Diesel was blended in Estelí, Nicaragua, and several later releases continued that relationship while introducing different wrappers, fermentation methods, barrel-aging techniques, and collaborations. Diesel remains a separate cigar brand from AJ Fernandez despite the close connection between the two.
