Factory Throwouts Cigars: No. 49, No. 59 and No. 99

Factory Throwouts are American-made cigars from J.C. Newman, produced at the company's El Reloj factory in Tampa, Florida. The collection uses Ecuadorian Sun Grown wrapper tobacco with Dominican and Nicaraguan filler and is rolled on hand-operated vintage cigar machines.

The current Factory Throwouts portfolio is organized around three numbered sizes: No. 49, No. 59, and No. 99. Natural versions form the core collection, while selected sizes are also produced in Sweet and Claro versions.

Factory Throwouts Sizes and Blends

Factory Throwouts No. 49

Factory Throwouts No. 49 measures 5.5 x 49, making it the shortest of the three standard Factory Throwouts sizes. J.C. Newman produces the No. 49 in Natural and Sweet versions, both retaining the compact 49-ring format.

Factory Throwouts No. 59

Factory Throwouts No. 59 measures 6.25 x 45 and has the narrowest ring gauge in the collection. It is also the most varied Factory Throwouts size, with Natural, Sweet, and Claro versions available from J.C. Newman.

Factory Throwouts No. 99

Factory Throwouts No. 99 measures 7.25 x 52, making it both the longest and largest-ring cigar in the standard collection. J.C. Newman offers the No. 99 in Natural and Sweet versions.

Factory Throwouts Natural, Sweet and Claro

Factory Throwouts are available in several versions depending on size. Natural is the standard expression across No. 49, No. 59, and No. 99. Sweet versions are available across all three sizes, while Claro is specific to the No. 59. This allows the numbered size and tobacco treatment to be selected separately.

What Is the Factory Throwouts Cigar Blend?

Factory Throwouts use Ecuadorian Sun Grown wrapper tobacco over Dominican and Nicaraguan filler. The wrapper leaves may show minor color variations that do not meet the appearance standards required for more expensive imported cigars, allowing J.C. Newman to use the tobacco in its value-priced Factory Throwouts collection.

Where Are Factory Throwouts Cigars Made?

Factory Throwouts are made at J.C. Newman's El Reloj cigar factory in Tampa, Florida. The cigars are produced on hand-operated vintage cigar machines similar to those used during the major periods of Tampa cigar manufacturing in the 1930s and 1940s.

Why Are They Called Factory Throwouts?

The name refers to the wrapper tobacco used for the cigars. Premium Ecuadorian Sun Grown leaves can be rejected for higher-priced cigars because of minor discoloration even when the tobacco remains suitable for smoking. J.C. Newman purchases this wrapper tobacco at a lower cost and uses it for Factory Throwouts, helping keep the collection value priced.

Choosing a Factory Throwouts Cigar

Start with size: No. 49 for the shorter 5.5 x 49 format, No. 59 for the narrower 6.25 x 45 format, or No. 99 for the larger 7.25 x 52 cigar. Then choose among Natural, Sweet, or the No. 59 Claro according to availability and preference.
